Philip J. Caito IV and Joseph A. Caito founded Caito Foods in 1965. However,
their passion for the produce industry began long before the doors opened. The
two brothers grew up during the 1940’s and 1950’s, living near the local
farmer’s market and wholesale produce district of Indianapolis. By 1960, the
Indianapolis Produce Terminal had been built and the brothers began working
with their father, who processed and sold bananas. After completing school, the
two continued their life-long partnership by aggressively developing new
marketing strategies to deliver quality products and services to customers in
their region.
Caito Foods was a first to offer full-service fresh produce deliveries to
customers throughout Indianapolis and Central Indiana in the mid - 1960’s. A
commitment to service and a focus on innovative new strategies led to rapid
growth and a loyal customer base. By 1974, the company had outgrown its leased
10,000 square foot warehouse in the Indianapolis Produce Terminal and moved
into a new 40,000 square foot warehouse with modern zoned refrigeration and
banana processing rooms.
The family tradition and winning formula continued when Fred Caito, Phil and
Joe’s younger brother, joined Caito Foods in 1977. It wasn’t long before the
company outgrew its facility again. A brand new 200,000 square foot
distribution center, featuring technologically advanced refrigeration,
distribution, and control systems was built in 1984. Over the years, the facility has been continuously expanded and improved to keep it on the cutting edge of technology.

A second distribution center was opened in Ohio in October 2001. The new
facility features advanced warehouse operations designed to create greater
efficiencies and cost savings. The Eastern Ohio distribution center provides Caito Foods with a much larger delivery radius.
